Image files with a PNG extension are better alternatives than with a GIF extension since they include a transparency channel and support 24-bit RGB color palettes, RGB images, and greyscale. Unlike PNG, ISO image file is an archive file which is composed of all the data content written on an optical disc sector by sector. To better store the PNG image files, in this article, I would like to let you know how to convert PNG files to a single ISO image file with ISO creators.

Part 1: Know about ISO image file

An ISO image file is a disk image of an optical disc. ISO image files bear the “.iso” filename extension, which is a single file that's a perfect representation of an entire CD, DVD, or BD since the entire content of a disc can be precisely duplicated in a single ISO file. ISO format is recognized as an international standard file format that can contain a large number of images and media files in a single file. Nowadays, ISO has become the most popular disc image file format, including major system installation files, major commercial software and more.

An ISO image is simply a CD-ROM image saved in ISO-9660 format. ISO images are mainly used as source files from which to create CDs. Once you download the image, you can use CD burning software to recreate the physical CD-ROM install media. So using ISO images is a very efficient way to download a distribution. All that required is sufficient hard disk space, proper burning software, and a CD recorder.
