"Can you burn a Blu-ray movie to DVD disc for playback on DVD players? I've been told that Blu-ray movies require much larger space that that of DVD disc. Is it possible to burn Blu-ray to DVD?"

Some guys have been asking about burning Blu-ray to DVD. Since I happened to be working on that problem recently, I thought I'd whip up a tutorial on how to convert and copy Blu-ray to DVD. The below tutorial is about detailed solution on how to convert Blu-ray to DVD. It is a bit long, but covers 2 different useful ways to burn Blu-ray to DVD disc.

Part 1: Rip Blu-ray and Burn to DVD

Why did so many guys ask how to convert Blu-ray to DVD? Possibly because their computer comes with a DVD recorder drive only, there is just a DVD player available on their computer to play back their Blu-ray movies, or they would like to get a backup of their Blu-ray movies. Well, if you plan to play Blu-ray movies on DVD player or computer, you have to convert Blu-ray to DVD. Here comes the first solution: use a Blu-ray to DVD converter to convert Blu-ray to video for saving on computer hard drive, and then burn converted video to DVD disc with a Blu-ray DVD burner.

#1. Rip and Convert Blu-ray to Video

When it comes to the Blu-ray ripper to do the Blu-ray ripping, you can use Handbrake for free. For the detailed steps, please refer to ripping Blu-ray with Handbrake. Note that Handbrake can only convert Blu-ray to MKV and MP4 video. Plus, it’s unable to crack the Blu-ray copy protections and region code restrictions.

Actually, the better Blu-ray to DVD converter for you is Leawo Blu-ray Ripper. It can help you rip and convert Blu-ray discs to HD/common videos in 180+ formats easily, obvious better than Handbrake that only saves Blu-ray movies in MP4 and MKV formats. Another advantage of Leawo's Blu-ray Ripper superior to Handbrake is that it could decrypt and remove Blu-ray disc protections and break region code restrictions.

Leawo Blu-ray Ripper is quite easy to use for ripping Blu-ray to video. What you need to do is import the Blu-ray files, select the output format, then start Blu-ray to video converting. The detailed steps are listed below. You could download and install Leawo Blu-ray Ripper before you check the below guide to learn how to rip Blu-ray to video on computer.

2. Click the drop-down box before the big green "Convert" button and then select "Change" option to select an output format. You could even edit output profile video and audio parameters.
3. Click the big green "Convert" button. On the popup sidebar, you could see a "Save to" box, where you could set an output directory to save final video files.
4. Finally, click the bottom "Convert" button on the popup sidebar to start ripping and converting Blu-ray to video files. The Blu-ray to video conversion would start immediately.

#2. Burn Converted Video to DVD

When done with the Blu-ray ripping, you can use some free DVD burning software such as DVD Flick, DVD Styler, Windows DVD Maker, AVStoDVD, etc. to burn videos to a blank DVD disc. But what should be mentioned here is some of those tools stop updating now. Some are gone on Windows 8. Some create DVD with out-of-sync video and audio. Some create DVD not compatible with DVD player. Some even don’t offer any DVD editing functions like setting titles, chapters, adding watermarks, creating custom DVD menu styles, etc.

So if you want to burn videos to DVD disc with high compatibility and quality, I recommend you to take use of Leawo DVD Creator. This DVD authoring software could burn video in any format to DVD. Besides, the built-in video editor allows you to customize videos with tools like trim, crop, effect, watermark, etc. You can also make DVD menu with background music. In addition, tons of free and customized DVD menu templates are provided for you to make professional DVD.

Leawo DVD Creator is not difficult to use at all. You can drag and drop all converted Blu-ray files (now in video formats) to Leawo DVD Creator's left processing list, choose or customize the DVD menu and have a preview to ensure all goes right, then do some further DVD settings like Disc Label and Save to options.
