Method 1: Take a screenshot on Dell with shortcut key

Almost all Dell computer keyboards are built with a Print Screen key, which is normally labeled “PrntScrn”. To use the shortcut key, you will need to paste the screenshot into a document editor, email message, file or image editor (in this guide, we will reference Paint as an example). This is the easiest method to take screenshot on Dell, and we will therefore show you the PrntScrn method to take the screenshots.

Step 3: Paste the your screenshot into paint by pressing "Ctrl" + "V" on your keyboard, then save it accordingly.

Method 2: Take a screenshot on Dell with snipping tool

Snipping Tool is the most popular way that people use to take screenshots on Windows computers. That is because it has been around for 18 years, it was initially released on November 7, 2002 on Windows XP Tablet PC and Vista editions. It is very easy to use, and its main modes are “Free-form Snip”, “Rectangular Snip”, “Window Snip” and “Full-screen Snip”. The sad news is Microsoft is set to kill this application in a future update, because they released a successor to Snipping Tool with the October 2018 update, (which is called Snip & Sketch app). However, it is still available for use today, this is how you can do it any Dell computer running Windows:

Step 1: Launch the Snipping Tool app. The snipping tool is available on all versions of Windows, from Vista to 10. Click the "Start" button and type "Snipping Tool" on the search bar, then select Snipping Tool from the search results.

Step 2: Choose the screenshot shape. There are "Free-form Snip", "Rectangular Snip", "Window Snip" and "Full-screen Snip" options available. Click the “Mode” drop-down button to choose the shape of the screenshot according to your own needs.

Step 3: Adjust the snip border parameters, then create your screenshot. By default, there will be a red border around the screenshot. You can change this by clicking "Tools" and select "Options" from the drop-down menu.

Step 4: Take the new screenshot by clicking the "New" button, then start the selection of the screenshot. Once you are done, save the screenshot and choose the save format (you can select PNG, GIF or JPG image formats).

Note: If you need to know how to crop a screenshot, use the "Free-form Snip” or "Rectangular Snip” methods, as those will easily guide you.

Alternatively, you can also use other in-built Windows methods to take screenshots, and that is through hot keys. It is important to note that these methods require an updated Windows 10 operating system, specifically the October 2018 update.

1. Use the keyboard shortcut ‘Windows+Shift+S’. This will copy the screenshot to the clipboard. Upon pressing the keys, the screen will be dimmed and a cursor will be shown. Press the left-key mouse button to select the area you want capture then release it once you are done. Open Paint or any other photo editing application to paste the captured screenshot.

2. Use the Snip & Sketch app. This app was brought to replace the Snipping Tool app, which has been around for a while. Although the Snipping Tool app is still available, Microsoft will kill it in the near future, and therefore you can learn to use the Snip & Sketch app. To use Snip & Sketch, open the application then press the New button. You will be offered three options to take the screenshot, and that is rectangular, free-form, and fullscreen. Choose one that suites your needs, take the screenshot then save it.
