Though "memory effect" does not apply to lithium-ion batteries of iPhone, your battery lifespan also damages with incorrect charging and discharging behaviors: using the wrong chargers with unmatched current, like power bank, PC's USB port or frequent charging. Inaccuration of battery charge indicator is an obviously early sign of battery damage. If your iPhone battery indicator shows an amount of battery life, however, it shuts down suddenly or the battery runs out fast after every full charge, or your iPhone could not be "over charged" with 100% battery indication but indeed it’s not fully charged, your iPhone might encounter a battery calibration problem. Battery calibration problem, to make it simple, is the inaccurate indication of the battery at the top right of your iPhone with the real juice levels. But the problem is adjustable at home and it will not be necessary to bring iPhone to the Apple Genius Bar. We’ll detail the process of how to calibrate iPhone battery and help you extend your battery life.

As we use our iPhone, we'll realize it gradually doesn’t last as long as they did on the first day and even drains fast. When we realize the iPhone battery percentage becomes unreliable or jumpy, it’s time to calibrate our devices to get the maximum juice out of them.

Battery calibration would help the power control software to re-calculate the range of battery life and rediscover how we use our phones. One should calibrate the battery once a month and after every major iOS upgrade. With every upgrade, new features are added, some of which might affect battery life.

Part 3: How To Calibrate iPhone Battery?

The material properties of lithium-ion batteries require constant usage to maintain peak performance. Periodically draining and recharging the battery keeps the flow of ions moving in the battery. For this reason, Apple recommends discharging and recharging the battery once a month. We have an easy step by step guidance for you to calibrate your iPhone battery.

According to Apple, 100% means that you can get expected maintenance hours but it can be further charged. Keeping the device charging for another 2 hours after it reaches 100% will ensure it is fully charged. Make sure that you use and official wall socket Apple charger or one that runs at the same wattage and amperage.
