"How to make a custom DVD menu? Is there any DVD menu maker software app that could let me make DVD menu with my own images? I’ve used quite a few so-called custom DVD menu maker that promise to custom DVD menu but only provide options from preset images by these software providers. "

Many people would like to get a custom DVD menu maker, or even free menu maker to make DVD menu with their own images, but only to find few DVD maker software that could do this. However, with Leawo DVD Creator, you could make your own DVD menu with images you like on your computer. This post would show you how to make a DVD menu with the help of Leawo DVD Creator – a wonderful and practical DVD authoring software program.

Leawo DVD Creator allows you to make DVD menu locally. Every DVD menu template would include 3 things: image folders respectively named in "4-3" and "16-9" to include images respectively for different aspect ratios, and an XML file that could adopt these images and other elements to form a DVD menu.

The below things you could do to make a DVD menu with the help of Leawo DVD Creator:

The following content would show you detailed information on what you need to prepare so as to make a DVD menu.

Section 1: Prepare Images You Would Like to Put into DVD Menu

Firstly, you need to create corresponding folders to put in your images. These images could be used as background image, video frame image (screenshots of video clips as thumbnail on menu), instruction buttons (next button, previous button, return button), etc. Follow the directory "%AppData%\Roaming\Leawo\Prof. Media\Burn\MenuTemplate\Download" to open target folder. The directory may vary according to different Windows operating systems. To make it accurate, you could make use of Windows’ Run order by pressing "Windows+R" keys on the keyboard to call out the "Run" search bar and then input %AppData% to search.

After the search result displays, open the directory of "\Leawo\Prof. Media\Burn\MenuTemplate\". If you haven’t downloaded any template from the program’s menu center, you then need to create "Download" folder that includes other folders, as showed on the below image:

Under the "Download" folder, create 2 folders: "4-3" and "16-9", presenting different aspect ratio of disc menu. Under "4-3" and "16-9" folders, you could create 2 folders respectively: Menu and Scene. Then, you need to put the images you would adopt in disc menu into these 2 folders. Images in "16-9" folder and "4-3" folder should include (taking the "16-9" folder as example):

Section 2: Make an XML file to integrate Images to a Custom DVD Template

With all images prepared, you then need to make a "DownloadTemplate" XML file to integrate all your images into a custom DVD menu template. You could directly adopt the below codes to write an XML file:

    <DVDMenuTemplate>
    <TemplateDef DefName="Christmas" Type="Download" Aspect="16:9">
    <Color>
    <Text High="#ffffff" Select="#000000"/> ("High" refers to highlight effect color, while "Select" refers to color when it it chosen.)
    <Frame High="#ffffff" Select="#000000"/>
    <Button High="#ffffff" Select="#000000"/>
    </Color>
    <Menu>
    <Background FileName="background01.png" Width="1920" Height="1080"/> (The name and size of background image)
    <Frame FileName="scrbackground.png" Left="121" Top="144" Width="782" Height="711"/> (Name and size of image frame)
    <videoscr Left="98" Top="230" Width="582" Height="369"/> (The box frame in preview panel: relative distance to the left and top sides, and the size of the box frame.)
    <TitleText Type="Tahoma" Alignment="Left" Color="#ffffff" Size="72" Bold="true" Italic="false" Underline="false" Left="1188" Top="423"/> (Settings for "My DVD" title on the main menu.)
    <ButtonPlayText Type="Tahoma" Alignment="Center" Color="#ffffff" Size="48" Bold="true" Italic="false" Underline="false" Left="1247" Top="547"/> (Settings for the "Play" title on the main menu for playback.)
    <ButtonScenesText Type="Tahoma" Alignment="Center" Color="#ffffff" Size="48" Bold="true" Italic="false" Underline="false" Left="1246" Top="631"/> (Settings for the "Scenes" title to guide you to scenes of the disc.)
    </Menu>
    <Scene>
    <Page Number="0">
    <Background FileName="background02.png" Width="1920" Height="1080"/> (The name and size of background image for the scene list page)

  4. <TemplateDef DefName="Christmas" Type="Download" Aspect="16:9"> refers to the template name and aspect ratio.

Section 3: Integrate the Images and XML File and Preview the DVD Menu

Once you’ve created the XML file and saved it as "DownloadTemplate.xml" file, copy and paste it to the "\Leawo\Prof. Media\Burn\MenuTemplate\" folder and replace the previous one (if there exists one already). Then, you could get a preview of the custom DVD menu template you’ve made within Leawo DVD Creator, under the "Online" tab, as showed below:

In this way, you could freely create any custom DVD menu as you like. But this method has a limitation. If you’ve downloaded DVD templates from Leawo’s Online template center, this will cover and delete all previously downloaded DVD menu templates.
