Other things needed for DVD copying

Other than a suitable piece of DVD copying software, you are going to need something more to get the DVD copying job done. You can use Leawo DVD Copy to copy the DVD to your hard drive first and then burn the DVD copy to a new, recordable DVD disc. If this is what you are going to do, you will need one DVD drive capable of DVD burning. Leawo DVD Copy can also help you directly copy a disc to a blank disc. If you want to perform directly DVD to DVD copying, then you are going to need two DVD drives and at least one of them should be able to burn DVD discs. Also, you need to get the recordable DVD discs in advance. You can order recordable DVD discs off of places like Amazon, BestBuy, etc.

Step 1. Fire up Prof.Media. The program includes 8 different modules in it and you should be able to find DVD Copy among them on the interface. Just click the icon of DVD Copy as you find it.

Step 2. In the center of the DVD Copy interface is a sign. It lets you know that you can drag the source DVD files in the program to import them. That’s one way to import source DVD content to the program. All you need to do is open the DVD folder in file explorer and drag the folder into the program interface and drop it. And the disc content will start to be added to the program. On top of the blank area, there’s also an Add Blu-ray/DVD button that you can use to add the source content in the disc to the program. Click Add Blu-ray/DVD>Add from CD-ROM and select your disc from the following menu.

Load DVD content

Step 3. The following interface consists of several different sections. The big window on the right is the video player for you to play the video in the disc. When you are playing the disc, you can select audio tracks and subtitles from the respective lists on the right column. And on the right column are the video title list, audio track list and subtitles list. Below these lists are 3 buttons representing 3 different DVD copy modes. The purpose of offering these 3 copy modes is to help users quickly choose the content they want to include in the copy. Full Movie will include all the content in the original disc in the copy. Main Movie will include the longest video in the disc. Also one audio track and one set of subtitles will also be included. If you use Custom Mode, you can freely choose the videos, audio tracks and subtitles from the respective lists. You can have multiple videos, subtitles and audio tracks selected to be included in the copy with Custom Mode.

Select content to copy

Step 4. Click the Copy button on top of the video player. The sidebar that comes up from the right side of the video player contains a few settings we need to go through. There are 3 options at the top. By checking the DVD Folder option, you will have the DVD disc copied to your hard drive as a DVD folder. And if you check ISO File, the original disc will be copied to your hard drive as an ISO image. If you have two disc drives, you can put in a rewritable disc in the second disc drive, select the second drive in the third option as the target of the copy to directly copy the original disc to a blank disc. Click the Copy button at the bottom to start copying your DVD.

Start copying

If you want to copy the original disc to another rewritable disc but only have one drive, you can first use Leawo DVD Copy to copy the disc to your hard drive as a DVD folder or an ISO image and then use the program to burn the DVD folder or ISO image to another disc.

How to repair a scratched DVD

Scratches are DVDs’ biggest enemy. Once there are scratches on the disc, the data could be damaged. While most of the light scratches do no actual harm to the data on the disc and are repairable, some severe scratches might actually make the disc unusable. If you find any scratches on your favorite DVD movie, don’t rush into tossing it away, there’s a chance you might be able to fix the scratches. Follow the instructions below and see if you can get the scratches repaired. Note that it might not work 100%. It’s just as like that it won’t work. But there’s no harm in trying to fix it.

Here’s how to fix slight scratches on DVD discs.

  • 1. Use a mild soap and warm water to have debris on the reflective surface of the disc removed and cleaned first.
  • 2. Use a lint-free cloth to dry the disc.
  • 3. Put toothpaste on the reflective surface of the disc and start rubbing the toothpaste on the disc in straight line from the center of the disc to the outer edges.
  • 4. Carefully wash off the toothpaste and dry the disc with the same cloth.

Use Toothpaste to repair scratches on DVD

If the scratches are too deep and severe to repair, then maybe it’s time for you to get a new copy. And maybe you should consider getting your unscratched DVDs backed up properly. If you can back up your DVDs to your computer hard drive, then you would be able to keep them safe and they will remain usable as long as your hard drive is functional.
